Induction - Campus Session

The on-campus induction on the 22nd of September provided an excellent opportunity to meet the staff and students that we will be working with during the course; it was reassuring to get to know the other members of the group.
During the session, we discussed ways to 'open' the mind to enable us to record, on paper, the ideas we generate in our heads. Some of these exercises were very new to me, yet I believe they will be useful when undergoing the tasks involved in the BAPP course. Working in education, I believe 'mind maps' are a good way to record initial ideas but I found the idea of using different materials (such as post it notes or shapes) to create a new 'mind map' of ideas particularly interesting and informative; this is definitely something I would like to experiment with during the course, especially as I am visual learner.

Similarly, I found the discussion about whether as art students we are 'academic' very interesting. Is the work I undertake daily in the arts 'academic'? Upon reflection after the session, I believe the fear of expressing yourself in a different form (not through movement and performance) can make the task of a written assignment very daunting. As it was discussed during the session, I now think what dancers or artist do is academic, it is just finding the right way of approaching it.

Although I feel nervous about the level of 'freedom' this course offers, I am looking forward to taking control of my own learning and having the opportunity to study in a different way.

Initially, I was anxious about attending the induction as I was unsure what the day would consist of. However, in hindsight, I was extremely happy that I made the decision to attend the campus session as it opened up new avenues of thought for me and I am looking forward to beginning the course (including all the challenges it has to offer!)
