Inspirational Reading...

Since studying on the BAPP, I have watched two separate videos by Ken Robinson, where he voices his challenging and controversial views on our education system and performing arts. These have altered my thinking. As a drama teacher, I have found that these videos particularly relevant to my practices.

Due to this, I have downloaded two of his books to help broaden my thinking and knowledge on education, performing arts and my own practices: Finding Your Element: How to Discover your Passions and Talents and Transform Your Life and Creative Schools: Revolutionizing Education from the Ground Up.

I am currently reading Finding Your Element. I am finding this books supports my BAPP studies and current role, as it is challenging my own thinking about my passion and career. As a performing arts practitioners, we are very passionate about our subject and this is something I think is imperative to incorporate into my teaching. I also think it is very important to nurture the passion my students have for the subject, particularly those who are considered 'naughty' or 'bad' in academic subjects like Maths and English.

The book requires you to complete certain tasks and I am currently incorporating this into my reflective journal, as many of the tasks are concerned with work place. I am interested to know if anyone has already read this book and if they have any lasting impressions or thoughts about their experience?

Online Skype Session 28th April

First of all, I am sorry this has taken me so long to write up. Like many other BAPP students at the moment, I have been focusing on my critical reflection to hand in next Monday!

During the session, we discussed issues that have been arising during our studies. For me, I was struggling with the critical reflection and linking this with my professional practices. I found it was insightful discussing this with others in the conversation.

Irini's comment that Module 1 is the beginning of something and not the end, really resonated with me. I feel like much of what I have learnt to much during the twelve weeks of study has had an impact on my professional practices and I have struggled to fit this into the work count of 1000 words. Irini's comment made me realise that I do not have to show that I am a fully developed professional after these short twelve weeks. In this way, it is the beginning of my professional development. 

As Adesola said, this course is about finding ways to create time to develop yourself professionally whilst staying true to your art form. Studying module 1, has provided me with an deeper insight into my own professional practices and development, and these are the things I will take forward into the next Module to hopefully delve further into aspects of my role.
