In
light of the solar eclipse last week, many of the students observed the eclipse
and had questions about the process itself. I was watching the BBC 2 programme Star Gazing Live that evening and the
story of the public collective picture of the Orion constellation caught my eye.
Members of the public uploaded their photographs of the constellation to the
identified Flickr account using normal cameras, not telescopes. The photos were
then collated to create the most detailed photo of Orion ever recorded.

This
made me think about the theory of Web 2.0 and Collective Intelligence. It fascinated me that the most detailed
photo ever created was made collectively by the public by uploading to a Web
2.0 tool. This shows the true power of Web 2.0 for developing our intelligence in
every aspect of life.
